Understanding Osteoporosis
Know Your Risk for Bone Loss
At Seale Harris Clinic, we screen for osteoporosis using the DEXA Bone Density Scan—the most accurate way to measure bone strength. Your doctor will review your medical history, past fractures, and other risk factors to determine if this test is right for you.
What to Expect
Your evaluation may include:
-
A review of your history of fractures or bone injuries
-
Risk assessment based on age, family history, and lifestyle
-
A DEXA Bone Density Scan to measure bone density
-
Follow-up imaging such as a Nuclear Bone Scan or MRI, if needed
These tools help us assess your fracture risk and build a treatment or prevention plan tailored to you.
What Is Osteoporosis?
Osteoporosis is a condition that weakens bones, making them more likely to fracture—even from minor falls or injuries. It most commonly affects women after menopause but can occur in anyone. Often called a “silent disease,” osteoporosis doesn’t typically cause symptoms until a break occurs.
The good news? It’s preventable and treatable with early detection, lifestyle changes, and in some cases, medication.
